Winter is finally on exit mode
Yes, these last few days have made it pretty clear to me that winter is finally on the exit mode here in my home city Calcutta, and more so slowly from the rest of India. As the days are slowly becoming longer and the nights shorter, and the sun starting to make it’s presence felt with greater authority, the spring and summer is finally knocking on the doors loudly. Every season has it’s own positive and negative sides, and many factors are unavoidable. Yet, in every season, life goes on in it’s usual path, with it’s usual surprises and challenges.
As you know by now, winter is my favorite season for various reasons. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t like the other seasons, particularly, the rains, when it becomes all wet and dreamy kind of. Summer has it’s own characteristics, but specially in this part of the world, it becomes somewhat of a challenge, just the same as winter poses it’s own challenges in some other parts of the world. Anyways, the usual cycle of life and seasons will have to go on, for me like everyone else.
My Daily Journal continues As winter is passing by
Last week I saw the new Liam Neeson movie Den of Thieves, and was quite impressed by it’s slick handling. Even though I missed out on the other releases like The Maze Runner – Death Cure and on the other big one, Phantom Thread, probably the last movie by the iconic Daniel Day Lewis[will definitely collect the DVD when it is out]. The Oscars are round the corner next month, and this time of the year, all the great movies are getting released, and naturally I am excited. There is so much to see and experience and get immersed in, that sometimes we, the viewers are spoiled for choices. Another big one is getting released tomorrow[the 9th of Feb] here in my home city, the movie named 15:17 to Paris. Can’t wait to catch it tomorrow in the theaters, it’s gonna be an edge of the seat affair. The movie is based on true incidents and it is directed and produced by the great Clint Eastwood. Surely, friends, this one is not to be missed, and will surely be reviewing this one too 🙂
Reading has always been a favorite thing of mine, both as past time and for the serious love for it. But, I am feeling short of time to do some real long reading lately, even though I am filling up my Kindle with new releases. And in this age of constant bombardment of visual media, it sometimes become difficult to seat for some quiet and peaceful moments to do some long and immersive reading without any other distractions.
Yet, I know that I am filling up my kindle with books to ultimately read those. And with some determination and renewed enthusiasm, I started on this new romance novel from the Indian writer Ajay K Pandey, namely You are the Best Wife. The book has started on a positive note for me, and I am currently somewhere on the fifteenth page. A long way to go. The story is somewhat a simple one. It’s a young engineering graduate coming of age to go through life and finally finding his soulmate from his college romance and whom he marries ultimately . And the story goes one. I shall discuss this with you once I finish this.
Meanwhile I can recommend you to try this one.
I got another book in my list for my next reading. Undelivered Letters by J Alchem. The reviews are promising and will want to go through this one and learn what the story is all about.
So, my next few days will be busy trying to finish up with these readings.
I remember from my childhood days how reading books used to transport me into some unknown worlds of fantasy and got me completely absorbed and immersed in it, it all used to seem like kind of a dream, particularly with Jules Verne novels, were my favorite in my school days.
Music of Nathan Ball My late winter find
Few days back since last week, I discovered the lovely music of yet another artist, new to me. British born singer songwriter, Nathan Ball. After giving a few listens to his songs, I found hat I was looking for in him, the same acoustic indie sound of the lovely guitars, enveloping strings, lovely keyboard arrangements and very soothing mellow feel to all of his songs with a very homely voice of his. I am sharing some songs of him here for you to find out, if you will like him, which I am sure you will 🙂
Nathan Ball’s songs remind me of very talented British singer songwriter Ben Howard. Ben has an amazing career till now and I have mentioned and shared his music in many of pots earlier as I am a big fan of his.
Artists like these are not in the limelight like the Bruno Mars, John Legends or Timberlakes of the world, but they are in no way lesser talented artists. They create, with passion, without pride and prejudice, and stay close to their fans.
As Winter slowly fades away and paves for summer, India gets geared up for another round of festive days with colors, lights and lots of good wishes and happiness
Yes, I am getting prepared too for the summer as well as another round of festive days to come. And this is the very usual feature of our lives here in India. There are so many festivals, most of them nationally celebrated with holidays all over, and gives one more chance for everyone to come together and bask in the bonhomie, and nothing can be much greater than that. So, friends, until my next journal entry, will have to hang up now, till I bore you more 🙂
Let me know what books you are reading, do share your music and listen to Nathan Ball, let me know of your favorites for this year’s Oscars, and stay well and positive. Thanks.
