10 Things to keep Me Healthy on any day
Hello everyone, it’s good to be at the writing table once again as I set to talk about 10 things to keep me healthy and fit on any day throughout the year, and particularly this time of the year with frequent weather changes and falling temperatures.
It really becomes important sometimes to look back at our health and well being, both physically and mentally and take preventive steps wherever necessary, to keep ourselves always at the top of the game called life, which challenges us at every juncture with all it’s might 🙂
10 things essential to me As part of a daily routine or habit
I personally believe that we all have our 10 things we usually do, sometimes as part of our daily routine, and sometimes on random basis, to stay fit and healthy, or rather to say, just to remain cheerful and positive and bright throughout our days. I too have my own things, irrespective of any challenges on any day, I generally try to do these things as a routine, sometimes naturally, sometimes enforcing it.
And that is exactly i am gonna share with you all today, as part of my journal writing habit, sharing with you tit bits of my daily life. I will try to list my 10 things to keep me healthy broadly into two parts, physical health and mental or spiritual health, as both are very important and both complement each other well, giving us a wholesome self, ready to take on the challenges of this world 🙂
Physical Health in my 10 things list
1] Eat Well – yes, this is very important to me, eating well. I don’t at all endorse to the idea of over eating or under eating, which we sometimes very unfortunately resort to in order to see the best of our health, but which backfires most of the times with dreadful consequences. I love to eat, almost everything, but I can’t eat a lot. That’s why, I eat multiple times, throughout the day, in manageable amounts which suit my system, and saves me from occasional hunger pangs or uneasiness due to over eating. While I eat regularly in meager volumes, I try to intake as much vitamins and proteins and all other minerals in their manageable forms. And I love food which is well cooked and tastes good 🙂 I am happy that my food intake keeps me fresh, agile, active 🙂
2] Eat your fruits – Yes, why I listed it separately is the reason that this is important to me. Not just because my mother has been screaming this to me throughout her life till now, and I have also understood the importance of it in the qualities it possess for the well being of our health, eating fruits has to be in my routine, even not daily, but quite regularly. In any form, whether cut fresh or juiced, fruits have that intrinsic value we can’t ignore. Coming from a country like India where fruits are so widely and abundantly available, my favorites are always apple, oranges, grapes, bananas and many others.
3] Drink Water gleefully – Yes, this is what I love to do. Just plain drinking water, nothing beats it. I have, for time and time again, understood the importance and values that plain drinking water has, and it has worked wonders for me. It has helped to me to fight dehydration, constipation, and has kept me always fresh and happy and satisfied with my health. I try to drink water in adequate quantities, wherever I am, throughout the day. And I have found everyone telling me almost the same thing, particularly my family doctor reminds me this almost each time I need to pay him a visit, to drink my water generously and happily. And listening to these, as helped me a lot. And it will help you too, trust me 🙂
4] Drink Warm Water – Yes, I have talked about this earlier too, and it is an important subject for me. I will personally advice you all to follow this religiously, as I do. Everyday, after you get up from your sleep in the morning, and before going to bed at night, drink one full glass of lukewarm drinking water. Just warm your drinking water in any way you want, just lukewarm, not boiling hot, and then drink it in a comfortable way. You can add some lime juice or honey if you want in it, though not compulsory. Drinking hot water has helped me to fight cold, from any kind of body aches, to have good sleep, fight indigestion and it will help you in constipation, improved blood circulation, reduces unwanted toxins from your body and keep you fit and active. Taken regularly, it will do immense good to your health in the long run.
5] Sleep must – Yes, this is easier said than done, in today’s life at least, when we are always so busy with the competitions of daily life, or rather work life, that we are forced to let go of this very essential element of our physical health and it’s well being, that is sleep. I have made it mandatory for myself, that I must have my continuous uninterrupted sleep for at least six hours in the night, and it keeps me fresh and active and up and running in the mornings. So, no matter wherever or which situation or circumstances we are in, we must never compromise on our sleep for the day, or night, to be precise 🙂
6] Physical activity is a must – yes, once again, a very important feature and routine for me is my sport, which is Table Tennis, or Ping Pong, as it is known in some parts of the world. I have been playing this sport for many years now, earlier, in competitive mode, now-a-days for the love of the sport, and trust me, my days are incomplete without my 1/2 hours of T.T. practice at the local club. Table Tennis is a fast game of reflexes of almost all muscles in the body, including your eyes and your senses, and it is wholesome and very demanding even if you play it for just half an hour. It keeps me fit, both physically and mentally. Though i love many other forms of physical activities including walking and running, but Table Tennis is the sport which I take seriously and get completely engrossed in it. We all must engage in some sort of physical activity or sport whichever is convenient to us and to our liking.
Mental and Spiritual health in my 10 things list
6] Music and everything musical – By now you all know my love for music. Trust me, I am indebted to my connection with music. Listening to it, talking about it, watching it, sharing it, and occasionally practicing it, refreshes me emotionally, spiritually, and keeps me happy, engaged and bubbling with life. Remember, mental exercise is equally as important and essential as other aspects of keeping fit and healthy. And this never ending mix of heady tunes with engaging song writing is something which is a natural part of me and my spirituality.
7] Reading and more reading – My love for reading started in my childhood. My father is an avid reader and he had built a vast collection of books, majorly classics and everything else, in home and naturally I got introduced to that collection at a very early age. I remember, my afternoons were so emotionally charged up, as I was wondering in the fantasy world of adventure and fiction through Jules Verne classics at home, reading the entire series in vernacular translation in Bengali, and i absolutely fell in love with books and reading from there on. And the vast library in my school helped me develop my tastes much more. Reading keeps my mind engaged, active and always fresh and agile. And I know, it does the same for you all too 🙂
8] Movies and the parallel world – Yes, I love movies. As a fact, who doesn’t ? Movies stimulate us, keep our minds active, inquisitive, and exploring so many different parallel worlds of fantasy, fiction, period history and so many other things. Movies are an unavoidable source of my mental and spiritual happiness and health.
9] In calm and silence, peace and happiness – Yes, I am basically a very calm, silent, peace loving person and that keeps me happy. This happiness is very essential for our mental and spiritual well being every day, even though it is difficult to practice it in letter and spirits all the times. But, maintaining your own peace by being happy and good to everyone will ensure peace being celebrated throughout. And that helps me to feel rejuvenated and healthy all the times.
10] A few minutes of Meditation – Being a follower of Buddha, I came across the benefits of mental and spiritual well being and good health through learning about meditation. Just a few minutes of meditation on regular basis keeps me peaceful, helps me to control my anger, mood swings, worries, and makes my mind tranquil, happy and healthy. You can introduce meditation in your daily routine for just few minutes, and trust me, it will make a very happy and wholesome experience for you.
So, there goes my 10 things to keep me healthy and fit, on any day, in any time. Hope I have been able to say those which I wanted to say, and also hope that you will be able to relate some of these things to your daily lives as well. This week, temperature has really dipped here in my home town Calcutta, in India, as it has in various other parts of the world from where many of you may be. So, eat well, sleep well, drink more hot water, cut down on alcohol and smoking to your best efforts, play well, and do everything you do to keep it healthy and happening 🙂
